Description

The office on violence against women (OVW) training and technical assistance (TA) initiative provides OVW grantees and subgrantees with the expertise and support they need to develop and implement successful state, local, tribal, and campus projects; increase victim safety; and bolster offender accountability. Through cooperative agreements, OVW supports educational initiatives, conferences, peer-to-peer consultations, and targeted assistance that allow current and potential grantees and subgrantees to learn from experts and one another about how to overcome obstacles and incorporate promising practices in their efforts to address violence against women. In addition, OVW is focused on building the capacity of the criminal and civil justice systems and victim service providers to respond effectively to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking and to foster partnerships between organizations that have not traditionally worked together to address violence against women. With FY 2024 TA initiative funding, the national criminal justice training center of FOX valley technical college (ncjtc), with its partner, the tribal law and policy institute (tlpi), will plan and implement the training and technical assistance (TTA) for tribal law enforcement project. This project will provide basic and advanced TTA for tribal law enforcement officers and agencies responsible for responding to and/or investigating domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, SEX trafficking, and stalking cases, and enforcing protection orders, in indian country and alaska. The project will assist tribal law enforcement in addressing the needs of survivors through the development and delivery of culturally specific high-quality TTA, including the dissemination of valuable web-based resources for tribal law enforcement officers and agencies. Over the course of the project period, ncjtc will develop and implement two survivor centered virtual basic training institutes for tribal law enforcement; three advanced topic regional in-person trainings; and up to six onsite individualized TTA sessions with tribes and their partnering agencies on responding to and investigating domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, SEX trafficking, and stalking against american indians and alaska natives. This project supports FY 2024 TA initiative purpose area 33: training and technical assistance for tribal law enforcement. The timing for performance of this award is 24 months. This is a new award.
