Description
The office on violence against women (OVW) training and technical assistance (TA) initiative provides OVW grantees and subgrantees with the expertise and support they need to develop and implement successful state, local, tribal, and campus projects; increase victim safety; and bolster offender accountability. Through cooperative agreements, OVW supports educational initiatives, conferences, peer-to-peer consultations, and targeted assistance that allow current and potential grantees and subgrantees to learn from experts and one another about how to overcome obstacles and incorporate promising practices in their efforts to address violence against women. In addition, OVW is focused on building the capacity of the criminal and civil justice systems and victim service providers to respond effectively to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking and to foster partnerships between organizations that have not traditionally worked together to address violence against women. With FY 2024 TA initiative funding, end violence against women international (EVAWI) will continue its sexual assault medical forensic exam (SAMFE) virtual practicum project. This project will provide medical providers and allied professionals with quality training and technical assistance aligned with current best practices to improve sexual assault survivors access to medical forensic care, including culturally appropriate care. Over the course of the project period, EVAWI will 1) maintain, update, and enhance the technology platform for the practicum; 2) identify updates needed to align with new developments, emerging issues, and current national standards for medical forensic exams; 3) add content to the SAMFE virtual practicum, specifically to address the needs of underserved populations; 4) draw new audiences to the practicum and provide training through webinars and conference presentations, and 5) provide technical assistance to multidisciplinary practitioners and users of the practicum. This project supports FY 2024 TA initiative purpose area 11: maintenance of, updates to, and TA on the sexual assault medical forensic examination virtual practicum. In support of this project, OVW hereby authorizes and consents to the reproduction, preparation of derivative works, and distribution of the practicum, solely in performing this award, of any copyrighted materials developed under award numbers 2004-IJ-CX-K041 and 2008-MU-MU-K407, including, but not limited to, design, programming, audio and video content, and educational exercises.
