Description

The office on violence against women (OVW) training and technical assistance (TA) initiative provides OVW grantees and subgrantees with the expertise and support they need to develop and implement successful state, local, tribal, and campus projects; increase victim safety; and bolster offender accountability. Through cooperative agreements, OVW supports educational initiatives, conferences, peer-to-peer consultations, and targeted assistance that allow current and potential grantees and subgrantees to learn from experts and one another about how to overcome obstacles and incorporate promising practices in their efforts to address violence against women. In addition, OVW is focused on building the capacity of the criminal and civil justice systems and victim service providers to respond effectively to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking and to foster partnerships between organizations that have not traditionally worked together to address violence against women. With FY 2024 TA initiative funding, tribal law and policy institute (TLPI) will partner with the native alliance against violence (NAAV), american bar association on behalf of its commission on domestic and sexual violence (ABA), tribal judicial institute at the university of north dakota school of law (TJI), and the national american indian court judges association (NAICJA) to promote effective collaboration amongst victim advocates, lawyers, and lay advocates to advance trauma-informed, victim-centered, and culturally appropriate legal assistance service delivery to survivors on tribal lands. Over the course of the project period, TLPI will provide planning and outreach to legal assistance providers for survivors on tribal lands, develop a website to house resources for legal assistance projects providing legal services to survivors on tribal lands, provide tailored training to a broad audience via different webinar series, support off site TTA using various technologies such as telephone, zoom, conference calls and email, and develop short resources relevant to issues identified by grantees or potential grantees. This project supports FY 2024 TA initiative purpose area 17: training and technical assistance project for tribal legal services. The timing for performance of this award is 36 months. This is a new award.
