About this award
The Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) has awarded a $300,000 Cooperative Agreement to Caminar Latino Inc., a non-profit organization based in Georgia, to implement the "Opportunities for All: The PEACE Approach to Culturally Specific Outreach" project. This 2-year initiative, funded under OVW's Technical Assistance (TA) Initiative (CFDA 16.526), aims to strengthen the organizational capacity of culturally specific organizations (CSOs) to serve survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
Through this project, Caminar Latino will provide direct TA, conduct interactive webinars, develop virtual regional workshops, maintain a database of CSOs to facilitate peer connections, host an annual panel for peer discussion, and recruit a national network of service providers to disseminate resources. The goal is to evaluate and strengthen CSOs' capacity to serve survivors, increase the sustainability of their victim services activities, and enhance connections and engagement among CSOs and other stakeholders. This award supports OVW's efforts to build the capacity of the criminal justice system, victim service organizations, and community partners to respond effectively to gender-based violence and foster cross-sector collaboration.
Description
The office on violence against women (OVW) training and technical assistance (TA) initiative provides OVW grantees and subgrantees with the expertise and support they need to develop and implement successful state, local, tribal, and campus projects; increase victim safety; and bolster offender accountability. Through cooperative agreements, OVW supports educational initiatives, conferences, peer-to-peer consultations, and targeted assistance that allow current and potential grantees and subgrantees to learn from experts and one another about how to overcome obstacles and incorporate promising practices in their efforts to address violence against women. In addition, OVW is focused on building the capacity of the criminal and civil justice systems and victim service organizations to respond effectively to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking and to foster partnerships between organizations that have not traditionally worked together to address violence against women. With FY 2023 TA initiative funding, caminar latino will implement the opportunities for all: the peace approach to culturally specific outreach project. This project will strengthen the organizational capacity of culturally specific organizations (csos) to serve survivors, through the implementation of the comprehensive five-prong strategy known as the peace approach. The peace approach involves evaluating and strengthening csos' capacity to serve survivors, increasing the sustainability of their victim services activities, and enhancing the connection and engagement of csos with each other and with other types of organizations. Over the course of the project period, caminar latino will provide direct technical assistance, conduct interactive webinars, develop virtual regional workshops, maintain a comprehensive database of csos to facilitate peer connections, host an annual panel for peer discussion, and recruit a national network of service providers to disseminate resources. This project supports FY 2023 TA initiative purpose area 3: culturally specific outreach. This award is a continuation of 15JOVW-21-GK-02212-mumu.
