About this award
The Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families awarded Ohio Department of Job & Family Services $1.813914911 billion under the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program on October 1, 2025, for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2026.
TANF supports needy families with children by enabling care in their own homes or relatives' homes; ending dependence of needy parents on government benefits by promoting job preparation, work, and marriage; preventing and reducing out-of-wedlock pregnancies; and encouraging formation and maintenance of two-parent families. The program operates as a block grant, with quarterly payments distributed by the Division of Payment Management from which the recipient draws down funds. Assistance type is block grant.
Ohio Department of Job & Family Services distributes TANF funding to 37 county departments of job and family services and related county-level sub-recipients across Ohio performing TANF regular assistance, TANF administration, Comprehensive Case Management Employment Program (CCMEP) services, summer youth employment, and work allowance reduction activities. Named sub-recipients include Delaware County, Gallia County, Hamilton County, Marion County, Montgomery County, Summit County, Cuyahoga County, Ashtabula County, and dozens of additional Ohio county agencies. Sub-recipients also include nine regional food banks (Mid-Ohio Food Bank, Toledo Seagate Food Bank, Shared Harvest Foodbank, Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio, Second Harvest Foodbank of the Mahoning Valley, Freestore Foodbank, La Soupe Inc., and others) and community-based organizations such as Valley Interfaith Community Resource Center providing food assistance and supportive services to low-income families.
Place of performance is Ohio. Period of performance runs October 1, 2025 through September 30, 2026. Recipients must submit plans to HHS Administration for Children and Families and maintain records as required; plans need renewal every two or three years. Audits are conducted by the Inspector General under 31 U.S.C. Chapter 75. Effective October 1, 2025, recipients must comply with 2 CFR Part 200 and HHS-specific provisions in 2 CFR Part 300.
