About this award
This federal contract award is for the design, development, and testing of an Enhanced Passive Water Delivery System (EPWDS) to be used for growing plants in microgravity environments on the International Space Station and at ground facilities at the Kennedy Space Center. The contract was awarded by the Johnson Space Center to Redwire Space Technologies, Inc., a for-profit corporation that specializes in space exploration technologies. The contract has a ceiling value of $853,202.32 and is a Firm Fixed Price Delivery Order under the SBIR Program Phase III. The contract does not have a set-aside designation. Redwire will collaborate with a commercial entity to develop the EPWDS, which is based on a government-developed prototype called the Passive Orbital Nutrient Delivery System (PONDS). This project aims to provide more reliable water and nutrient delivery to plants in microgravity conditions, supporting NASA's goals for long-duration space exploration and utilization of the space environment.
Description
Passive orbital nutrient delivery system, ponds, this task order is to complete the requirements necessary for an enhanced passive water delivery system, epwds, to be used to grow plants in the vegetable production, veggie facilities on the international space station and in ground facilities at kennedy space center, KSC. The epwds will be designed to provide more reliable water and nutrient delivery to plants in microgravity. A government- developed epwds prototype called passive orbital nutrient delivery system, ponds will be used for the design, development, and testing of the space-flight qualified hardware. Techshot will work with a commercial entity to develop the hardware. The following tasks will be completed for this project.
