About this award

This federal contract award to Zin Technologies, Inc. is for the Advanced Colloids Experiment (ACE), a series of microscopic imaging investigations of colloidal materials aboard the International Space Station. The goal is to study the flow characteristics and ordering effects of these materials in the microgravity environment, which could enhance the understanding and application of similar materials for various technological uses.

The contract, valued at $104,717.00, is a cost-plus-fixed-fee delivery order awarded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) Glenn Research Center. Zin Technologies, a self-certified small disadvantaged business, is the prime contractor. The contract does not have a set-aside designation and is expected to be completed by July 19, 2023. This award is part of NASA's ongoing efforts to conduct microgravity research and develop technologies to support long-duration human space exploration.

Description

Advanced colloids experiment (ACE) is a series of microscopic imaging investigations in space of materials which contain small colloidal particles, which have the specific characteristic of remaining evenly dispersed and distributed within the material. This investigation takes advantage of the unique environment onboard the international space station (ISS) in order to separate the effects induced by earth's gravity to be able to examine flow characteristics and the evolution and ordering effects within these colloidal materials. Engineering, manipulation and the fundamental understanding of materials of this nature potentially enhances our ability to produce, store, and manipulate materials which rely on similar physical properties. The goal of this research is to probe and understand particle scale relationships and extend the application of this knowledge from fundamental physics to technological applications.
