Description

The original task order was awarded against a BPA that was competitively awarded using the procedures established in far part 8.4. The task order is for a continuation of technical services already being performed. Additionally, half of the technical support relating to this new task order has been completed by the current contractor. If the NRC was to RE-compete this effort, some of those tasks would have to be RE-worked (the RE-work would be required to familiarize the new contractor with the license application) creating a duplication of effort and cost. Neither of which would ensure the government is procuring the services in the most efficient or economical manner possible. The university of texas was issued operating license no. R-129 for the triga mark II reactor at the pickle research campus site on january 17, 1992. The current license renewal application (LRA) was submitted on december 12, 2011. Because of the timely renewal provision contained in 10 CFR 2.109(a), the licensee is permitted to continue operation of the UT triga under the terms and conditions of the current license until the NRC staff completes action on the renewal request. A renewal would authorize continued operation of the UT triga for an additional 20 years.
