The California Army National Guard awarded a $15.84 million firm fixed-price contract to V. Lopez JR. & Sons General Engineering Contractors, Inc. for construction of a new 24,564 square foot Vehicle Maintenance Shop (VMS) at the Bakersfield Army National Guard Readiness Center in Kern County, California. The contract, designated as a Total Small Business set-aside, was awarded on August 15, 2025, with a completion deadline of March 25, 2027. V. Lopez JR. & Sons, a service-disabled veteran-owned small business based in Santa Maria, California, will deliver comprehensive construction services encompassing all labor, materials, equipment, permits, and supervision necessary to construct a fully operational facility.
The project includes construction of a maintenance building along with critical supporting infrastructure, including a backup generator, vehicle parking for approximately 20 privately owned vehicles, controlled waste and flammable materials facilities, photovoltaic electrical systems, utility services, information technology systems, fire detection and alarm systems, and site improvements such as roads, walks, curbs, gutters, and storm drainage. All work must comply with local, state, and federal building codes as well as applicable federal regulations. This contract represents a significant opportunity for the small business contractor and supports the California Army National Guard's operational readiness by establishing dedicated maintenance capacity for military vehicles at its Bakersfield facility.
