About this award

This is a firm fixed-price definitive contract awarded by the Department of Energy's Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) to Lemnatec Corporation. The contract, valued at $3,095,889.81, is for a deployable, automated phenotyping system to collect high-fidelity data on sorghum field plots. The goal is to enable screening of more plants, earlier selection, and improved data capture during plant development to identify the best genes for propagation. This contract is not associated with a set-aside program. Based on the agency and program details provided, this award supports ARPA-E's mission to advance transformative energy technologies.

Description

The department of energy, advanced research projects agency energy (ARPA-E) has a requirement for a deployable, automated, phenotyping system ( system ) that will deliver raw sensory data and generate a high-fidelity dataset collected on sorghum field plots starting in 2015. Phenotype is the observable properties of an organism that are produced by the interaction of the genotype and the environment and sorghum is a tropical grass similar to corn in habit. The goal of this systems-level approach is to screen more plants, to select the appropriate plants earlier in the growing season, to capture better information about them during their development, and identify the best genes to propagate.
