The National Park Service Pacific West Region awarded a $895,000 definitive contract to WRX Contracting, LLC, a Native American-owned small business, for fire code compliance upgrades to two log cabins at the Dellenbaugh Administrative Site, Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument, on September 21, 2026, under a total small business set-aside.
Work is performed in Littlefield, Arizona, with ultimate completion by July 20, 2027. The contract is firm fixed price. Scope includes installation of a new sprinkler system with submersible pump, wet pipe valves, gauges, and automatic sprinkler heads fed from a new booster pump connected to an existing 10,000-gallon underground water tank; a fire detection system with alarm control panel, manual pull stations, photoelectric smoke detectors, and heat sensors; selective demolition and replacement of walls, flooring, and ceiling tile; new wiring in minimum half-inch conduit; and testing and operational placement of all systems. The Dellenbaugh site, located 90 miles from the nearest firefighting resource without cellular or landline service, is the sole National Park Service administrative facility in the monument and requires these upgrades to comply with applicable National Fire Protection Code classifications for the cabins' transition from residential to lodging occupancy. NAICS 238220 (Plumbing, Heating, and Air-Conditioning Contractors); PSC Y1NZ (Construction of Other Utilities).
