Description

Under the statutory provisions governing the renewable fuel standard (RFS) program (42 U.S.C. 7445, clean air act), the U.S. Environmental protection agency (EPA) is required to modify, or reset, the applicable annual volume targets specified in the statute for future years if waivers of those volumes in past years met certain specified thresholds. Those thresholds have been met. As a result, EPA is proposing a rulemaking (the RFS reset rule) that will propose modifying the applicable volumes targets in the statute for cellulosic biofuel, advanced biofuel, and total renewable fuel for the years 2020 - 2022.
