US Embassy Almaty

The Department of State's US Embassy Almaty is a diplomatic post within the Foreign Service that procures goods and services to support embassy operations and diplomatic missions in the Republic of Kazakhstan. As a field office of the State Department, the Embassy handles local contracting for facilities, logistics, administrative services, and mission support.

The Embassy has awarded 8 federal contracts since 2018, totaling $104 thousand in combined potential value, with $89 thousand obligated to date. Activity has been sporadic: 2 awards in 2018, 1 in 2020, 4 in 2021, and 1 in 2022. No awards have been recorded since February 2022. The portfolio is highly fragmented competitively; two distinct prime contractors have been awarded over the period, with Miscellaneous Foreign Awardees accounting for 1 award valued at $25 thousand. All eight awards were made without set-aside designations.

The small contract portfolio, extended dormancy since early 2022, and minimal spending volume suggest the Embassy's contracting activity is occasional and tactical rather than sustained. Business development professionals should note that State Department embassy posts typically procure through regional contracting offices and often award to local or third-country vendors under special acquisition rules; the "Miscellaneous Foreign Awardees" classification reflects this structural reality. No recent contract opportunities are recorded against the Embassy. Firms pursuing State Department work should monitor the embassy's parent contracting office or the regional State Department procurement center for active solicitations rather than expect opportunities rolled up at the post level.
