About Youth Guidance
Youth Guidance is a non-profit organization that creates and implements school-based programs to help at-risk children overcome obstacles, focus on their education, and succeed in school and life. Through federal grants, Youth Guidance provides mentoring and support services to youth in Chicago.
Youth Guidance has received over 30 federal sub-awards to provide instruction, intervention, recreation, and mentoring services to students and parents, as well as professional development for educators. These services have been funded through Social Services Block Grants, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), and other programs under the Departments of Education, Health and Human Services, and Justice. Youth Guidance also received a $1.5 million Project Grant award from the Department of Justice's Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention in 2021 to deliver the BECOMING A MAN mentoring program targeting high-risk youth over three years in Chicago. Through both prime and sub awards, Youth Guidance aims to increase academic achievement, provide integrated student supports, reduce juvenile delinquency and substance abuse, and supply enrichment opportunities. Key partners have included the Illinois State Board of Education and Illinois Department of Human Services.
