The Ozaukee Washington Land Trust Inc.

Ozaukee Washington Land Trust is a non-profit organization dedicated to conservation and environmental stewardship in Wisconsin. As a recipient of federal grant awards, the Land Trust focuses on habitat restoration, land management, and community engagement in natural resource conservation. Their work primarily involves preserving and enhancing ecologically significant areas, particularly along waterways and coastal regions in the Milwaukee area and surrounding counties. The organization leverages federal funding to support its mission of protecting and restoring natural habitats while fostering public connection to these spaces. Through various grant programs, Ozaukee Washington Land Trust provides services such as habitat restoration, invasive species management, native plant reintroduction, and community-based conservation initiatives.

Recent federal grant awards to Ozaukee Washington Land Trust showcase its diverse conservation efforts. In April 2024, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Coastal Program awarded a $160,376.61 Cooperative Agreement for managing and enhancing habitat quality at Koch Woods and Turtle Park within the Milwaukee River Estuary Area of Concern. This project employs a community-based approach, engaging volunteers and local organizations in stewardship activities. The Land Trust also received project grants from the U.S. Forest Service, including one in February 2022 for restoring coastal forest habitat at Forest Beach Migratory Preserve, and another in February 2021 for restoring forested riparian corridors along the Milwaukee River through the Cooperative Forestry Assistance program. As a subrecipient, the organization has partnered with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to improve biodiversity and safeguard coastal habitat through wetland restoration and invasive plant control at Forest Beach Migratory Preserve. Additionally, they have worked with the Wisconsin Department of Administration on related conservation initiatives. These projects demonstrate Ozaukee Washington Land Trust's expertise in habitat restoration, community engagement, and collaborative conservation efforts across various ecosystems in the Great Lakes region.
