About Kentucky Hospital Association
Kentucky Hospital Association (KHA) is a non-profit organization registered to receive federal awards since March 2006. As the leading voice for hospitals and health systems in Kentucky, KHA represents and supports its members in improving the health status of communities throughout the state. While KHA itself has not directly received federal grant awards, its subsidiary, the Kentucky Hospital Research & Education Foundation Inc. (KHREF), has been actively involved in numerous federal grant programs. KHREF, established as the non-profit arm of KHA, focuses on enhancing healthcare delivery and emergency preparedness in Kentucky through various federally funded initiatives.
KHREF has received multiple federal sub-grant awards, primarily from the Kentucky Cabinet for Health Services, which serves as the prime grantee for these programs. The foundation has been involved in a wide range of projects, including public health emergency preparedness, hospital preparedness, bioterrorism response, indoor radon mitigation, and Ebola preparedness and response activities. Specific federal grant programs that KHREF has participated in include the Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) program, Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP), Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Infectious Diseases, Public Health Crisis Response, and emergency response cooperative agreements. Through these awards, KHREF has worked to improve emergency response capabilities, enhance infectious disease control measures, strengthen public health protections, and support Kentucky's hospitals and health systems in crisis situations. Notably, KHREF received a prime federal grant award of $2.5 million from the Department of Health and Human Services' Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response to provide COVID-19 support for Kentucky's healthcare institutions.
