About the company
Pathways To Healing, also known as Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands (STSM), is a non-profit organization that began serving survivors of sexual assault in 1983 in Columbia, South Carolina. It is one of the largest sexual assault agencies in the southeastern United States, employing a team of 30 individuals. STSM's mission is to end sexual violence through advocacy, education, and supportive services, including a 24-hour crisis hotline, hospital accompaniment, personal and legal advocacy, individual and group counseling, and primary violence prevention programming.
Through a $856,601 Formula Grant award from the Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs Bureau of Justice Assistance STOP School Violence program, STSM strengthened and expanded its evidence-based Building Healthy Communities primary violence prevention programming. The project aimed to educate approximately 2,500 middle and high school students, 150 school faculty and staff, and school resource officers to prevent interpersonal and sexual violence as well as bullying. STSM also increased access to trauma-focused behavioral health resources and tracked program effectiveness through pre- and post-testing. Additionally, STSM has received sub-awards from the Attorney General of South Carolina to provide sexual assault services, sexual violence services, and Pathways to Healing Sexual Violence Services. These sub-awards support STSM's goal of achieving a community free of sexual violence through advocacy, education, and supportive services.
