About the company

Written by GovTribe AI ·

Rocking The Boat, Inc. is a non-profit youth development organization based in the South Bronx that uses wooden boatbuilding, environmental science, and sailing to empower young people. Through building and restoring wooden boats, learning to row and sail, and revitalizing local waterways, the organization aims to cultivate self-confidence, academic engagement, and teamwork among its participants.

Rocking The Boat, Inc. has received prime federal grant awards from the Department of Agriculture Forest Service Washington Office Acquisitions. One notable award is a cooperative agreement worth $51,000 for "YOUTH ENGAGEMENT THROUGH MIGRATORY BIRD MONITORING AND POSITIVE EXPERIENCES IN THE OUTDOORS," which runs from September 2023 to August 2028. Additionally, the organization has been awarded sub-grants from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. These sub-grants, each worth a significant amount, are dedicated to installing a seaweed farm on the Bronx River and engaging 120 young people in growing, harvesting, and producing nitrogen-rich fertilizer for community gardens and other organizations. The project aims to demonstrate a model for reducing nitrogen pollution by seaweed "bioextraction" and creating an alternative to synthetic fertilizers, ultimately improving water quality in the Bronx River and Long Island Sound.
