About The Pittsburgh Water And Sewer Authority

The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority (PWSA) is the largest combined water, sewer and stormwater authority in Pennsylvania. PWSA serves over 465,000 consumers in the City of Pittsburgh and surrounding areas, providing utilities such as water quality, catch basin cleaning, pipe maintenance and repair, lead line replacement, and sewage collection.

Through a prime federal contract with the Department of Veterans Affairs, PWSA has provided sewage and water services, with a total potential value of $1.9 million. Both contracts were definitive contracts with no set-aside designation. The sewage services contract was completed on September 30, 2020 with a potential value of $637,776.94. The water services contract had a potential value of $1,260,712.47 and was also completed on September 30, 2020.

As a subrecipient of grant funding from Pennvest, PWSA has received support to rehabilitate both large and small diameter sewer collection lines that have reached the end of useful life and are failing. Approximately 4,500 feet of large diameter and 22 miles of small diameter lines will be rehabilitated as part of PWSA's Capital Improvement Plan. This project, implemented over multiple phases from 2022-2024, will reduce sewer overflows and address corrective actions required by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. Additionally, PWSA has received subaward funding to replace approximately 7 miles of lead service lines due to high lead levels in drinking water. PWSA is under order to replace all lead lines in its service area.
