About the company
Northern Shenandoah Valley Substance Abuse Coalition is a non-profit organization formed in 2014 to collaborate with community partners and ensure the availability of a continuum of care for substance use and addiction services in the Northern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. The coalition launched the Northwest Regional Adult Drug Treatment Court (NWRADTC) in August 2016 as an alternative to incarceration for individuals facing non-violent charges motivated by substance use disorder.
The coalition has received several sub-grant awards from Mercyhurst University to support the NWRADTC program. In partnership with the Northwestern Community Services Board (NWCSB), the program provides intensive outpatient treatment services, including group therapy, individual therapy, moral reconation therapy (MRT), case management, and certified peer recovery services. The program has aided 90% of participants in securing insurance or Medicaid and provided transitional housing assistance. Since its inception in 2016, the program has served a total of 102 participants, with 44 successful graduates and 20 current participants. The sub-grant awards have enabled the continuation and expansion of these vital services, addressing the increase in fatal and non-fatal heroin/opioid overdoses in the region.
