About the company
National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) is the national level referral lab that regulates laboratory services in Nepal. NPHL was established in 1968 as the Central Health Laboratory and began functioning as the Public Health Laboratory since 1991. As a prime awardee, NPHL received a $545,000 cooperative agreement from the CDC to strengthen influenza surveillance and pandemic preparedness in Nepal through 2026.
As a subawardee, NPHL has partnered with Washington University on projects related to researching unknown causes of acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) in Nepal. Specifically, NPHL provides Washington University with anonymized cerebrospinal fluid and blood samples from AES patients that tested negative for Japanese encephalitis virus. These samples are provided for research under incremental cost-reimbursable agreements funded by Washington University's NIH grants. Under these agreements, NPHL receives payments for sample preparation, storage, and shipment costs.
