About the company
Maine Immigrant & Refugee Services (MIRS), doing business as Mirs, is a non-profit organization and community development corporation that provides services to immigrants and refugees. Mirs assists immigrant and refugee families through a variety of programs focused on achieving lasting stability and overcoming barriers related to poverty, education, employment, and healthcare access.
As a subrecipient of federal grants, Mirs has partnered with the Maine Department of Health and Human Services to provide Whole Family Services for low-income families, helping connect them with resources to address education, jobs, housing, transportation, and other needs. Mirs also received federal funding passed through the state health department to reduce COVID-19 disparities in underserved communities via education, outreach, and equitable vaccine distribution efforts. Additionally, Mirs was subgranted federal funds to offer legal services to Afghan refugees and worked with Boston College on a research project related to an intervention for immigrant and refugee children exposed to adversity. Other federal subawards supported Mirs' community efforts to address racial/ethnic disparities worsened by the pandemic. Prime grantees for these awards included state agencies as well as Catholic Charities Maine and the Trustees of Boston College.
