About the company

Local Government Federal Credit Union (LGFCU) is a not-for-profit financial cooperative that provides financial services and products to local government employees, officials, volunteers and their families. Through its designation as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), LGFCU has received several federal grants to expand access to affordable financial services in underserved communities.

LGFCU has been awarded over $3.9 million in project grants from the Department of Treasury's Community Development Financial Institutions Fund since 2019. These grants supported LGFCU's capacity to prepare for and respond to economic impacts of the coronavirus pandemic by providing financial assistance to affected businesses, organizations and individuals. Additionally, the grants strengthened LGFCU's ability to provide financial products, services, loan loss reserves, and capital reserves to rural and urban low-income communities lacking adequate affordable financial services. For example, a $740,000 CDFI grant awarded in February 2023 will empower LGFCU to invest in and build the capacity of other CDFIs to drive community revitalization nationwide through December 2026. A 2021 CDFI Rapid Response Program grant allowed LGFCU to increase financial products and services to communities economically affected by the pandemic.
