About Idea Public Schools
Idea Public Schools is a growing network of tuition-free K-12 public charter schools serving nearly 36,000 students across Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Ohio. As a local government entity and school district, Idea Public Schools primarily provides educational services to students through federal grants and contracts. The organization has received numerous federal awards to support a wide range of educational programs and initiatives aimed at improving academic achievement, especially for students from low-income families and English language learners.
Idea Public Schools has received federal contract awards, though these appear to be limited in scope compared to its grant activities. Most recently, in March 2024, the organization was awarded a firm fixed-price purchase order contract from the U.S. Army Recruiting Command for lodging services, with a ceiling value of $17,850. This contract did not have any set-aside designation. While details on other contract awards are limited in the provided information, it appears that Idea Public Schools occasionally provides ancillary services like lodging to government agencies in support of their operations.
The majority of Idea Public Schools' federal funding comes through grant awards, both as a prime recipient and sub-recipient. As a prime recipient, Idea Public Schools has received project grants from the Department of Education's Office of Elementary and Secondary Education, Office of Innovation and Improvement, and Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services. These grants have supported programs focused on school improvement, math education, special education, college preparation, and sustainable food initiatives. As a sub-recipient, Idea Public Schools has participated in numerous federal grant programs administered by the Texas Education Agency, including Title I Improving Basic Programs, Title II Supporting Effective Instruction, Title III English Language Acquisition, Title IV Student Support and Academic Enrichment, IDEA Special Education, 21st Century Community Learning Centers, and various COVID-19 education relief programs. The organization has also received subawards from the Texas Department of Agriculture for child nutrition programs and from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio for teen pregnancy prevention initiatives.
