About the company

The Great Plains Institute for Sustainable Development, Inc. is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that takes a pragmatic approach to energy and climate change challenges. Through federal grants, the Institute conducts research and provides analysis, tools, and stakeholder engagement to transform how energy is produced, distributed and consumed.

The Department of Energy awarded the Institute a $2.19 million cooperative agreement under the Renewable Energy Research and Development program to study ecosystem services at large-scale solar farms in the Midwest. The Institute will use the results to develop best practices for solar facility siting and permitting that benefit local governments, solar developers, utilities, landowners and disadvantaged communities. The Institute also provides facilitation, analysis and implementation support to Midwest states for electric vehicle infrastructure investment through a subaward from the National Association of State Energy Officials. Additional subawards have supported the Institute's work in areas such as program delivery for renewable energy and solar soft costs reduction.
