About the company
The Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy (GTRLC) is a non-profit organization based in Traverse City, Michigan with a mission to protect significant natural, scenic, and farm lands, and advance stewardship, now and for future generations. GTRLC has received prime federal grant awards from the Department of the Interior's Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) for ecological restoration projects in the Great Lakes region, specifically for habitat enhancement and invasive species control to benefit rare and threatened plant and animal species.
Through cooperative agreements with USFWS Region 3, GTRLC has conducted extensive invasive species treatment of glossy buckthorn across hundreds of acres at Maple Bay Natural Area and Petobego State Game Area. Work includes botanical surveys, developing management plans, installing fencing and signage to protect sensitive dune habitats, and hosting volunteer workdays for native plant restoration and invasive species removal targeting species like spotted knapweed and bladder campion. GTRLC has also received grants from the USFWS Region 9 Headquarters' North American Wetlands Conservation Fund program to acquire and expand protected wetland areas like the Golden Days Loon Nature Sanctuary. Additionally, GTRLC has partnered with entities like the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy as a sub-recipient on grants for invasive species treatment across public and private lands in the region.
