About Volunteer Legal Advocates

DC Volunteer Lawyers Project (DCVLP) is a non-profit organization that provides pro bono legal services to domestic violence victims, child victims, and vulnerable immigrants in Washington DC. They aim to advocate for victims, empower them with knowledge of their rights, and enable them to achieve safety, security, and self-sufficiency.

DCVLP has received a $750,000 Project Grant from the Department of Justice's Office on Violence Against Women under the Legal Assistance for Victims (CFDA 16.524) program. Through this grant, DCVLP will provide full legal representation, brief legal services, legal advice, and legal advocacy to low-income victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking from traditionally underserved communities, particularly immigrants of color and LGBTQ immigrants of color, living in the Washington, D.C. area. Additionally, DCVLP has received multiple subawards from the D.C. Office of Victim Services to provide trauma-informed legal, advocacy, and support services to over 1,000 domestic violence victims and children annually, with an emphasis on Wards 5, 7, and 8. These subawards cover services such as representation for child victims living in unsafe homes, case management, and training attorneys to represent child victims.
