About City Of Chicago
The City of Chicago, through its Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities (MOPD), provides services and support to individuals with disabilities who live in or are connected to the city. MOPD aims to ensure equal access and full inclusion for people with disabilities in various aspects of life.
Through federal grant awards, MOPD has undertaken initiatives to support individuals with disabilities who become victims of gun and community violence. In a $350,000 project grant from the Department of Justice, MOPD aims to develop a comprehensive program to serve individuals who acquire disabilities due to gun and community violence in Chicago. The project involves cataloging organizations serving these victims, conducting accessibility assessments, providing training to improve accessibility and connections among service providers, and creating opportunities for disabled victims to access resources and services. Additionally, MOPD received a $425,000 cooperative agreement from the Office on Violence Against Women to establish multidisciplinary collaborations and increase organizational capacity to provide accessible and effective services to individuals with disabilities who are victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. MOPD will support a collaborative team including victim service providers and organizations serving individuals with disabilities to identify needs and develop a plan to address them. The city has also received sub-grants from the Illinois Department of Human Services under the Substance Abuse Block Grant (SABG) program.
