About the company

Boydston Chemical Innovations Inc. is a for-profit manufacturer of goods registered to do business with the federal government through SAM.gov. The company provides chemical research services and products to federal agencies.

Through past prime federal contract awards, Boydston Chemical Innovations has provided chemical research services related to an Army program called "COST EFFECTIVE LINEAR-ROMP." This included a $1.1 million Phase II Small Business Technology Transfer contract with the Army's Research, Development and Engineering Command running from May 2022 through June 2024. The contract has a total small business set aside designation. Boydston also previously provided early monthly technical reports on the Phase I stage of this "COST EFFECTIVE LINEAR-ROMP" program in 2021, through a $166,475 purchase order contract with the Army's Research, Development and Engineering Command.

Through past prime federal grants, Boydston Chemical Innovations has received funding to research and develop glass fiber towpregs using metal-free ring-opening metathesis polymerization resins. This included a 2020 cooperative agreement with the Army's Research, Development and Engineering Command providing $463,778 through November 2021. Boydston also received a 2020 National Science Foundation project grant for $225,000 through October 2021, to research STTR Phase I work on metal free-ring opening metathesis polymerization.

SBA capabilities narrative

Boydston Chemical Innovations (BCI) produces odorless, easily processable oligomers and polymers of dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) and several functionalized norbornenes for the production of high-performance thermosets, fiber-reinforced composites, and photoresins.

BCI specializes in the synthesis of Metal-Free Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymerization (MF-ROMP) products, using photoredox chemistry and organic initiators. BCI produces MF-ROMP materials at a kilogram scale. Our unique ROMP method gives linear oligomers and polymers of DCPD with targeted molecular weights, which can be processed either as thermoplastics or thermosets for a number of applications. The metal-free nature of our products opens up applications that previously could not be considered, e.g. medical implants and electronics. In addition, linear oligomeric DCPD produced by MF-ROMP has been used as an additive in high-performance plastics and can increase impact resistance, along with thermal and chemical stability.
