About Asian Arts Initiative
Asian Arts Initiative is a non-profit organization providing arts and cultural programming in Philadelphia's Chinatown North/Callowhill neighborhood. Through federal grants, Asian Arts Initiative supports community arts engagement, promotes well-being through the arts, builds capacity in the cultural sector, and advances asset-based community development practices.
Past federal awards to Asian Arts Initiative include project grants from the National Endowment for the Arts supporting a theater production, COVID-19 pandemic recovery efforts, and installation of an arts landscape project. An additional project grant was awarded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services to collaborate with Indigenous arts groups on exhibitions, residencies, and advisory services. These federal grants have enabled Asian Arts Initiative to provide collaborative arts programming, community engagement, strategic consulting, facilities improvements, and pandemic recovery assistance. Prime partners have included Montvalo Arts Center and the Indigenous organizations We Are the Seeds and Indigenous Direction. Funding has derived from the National Endowment for the Arts’ Grants for Arts Projects and Grants for Organizations programs, in addition to the Institute of Museum and Library Services’ National Leadership Grants program.
