About this program

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funds local terrorism prevention capabilities and community-based violent extremism intervention through the Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention Grant Program (CFDA 97.132), with the most recent awards issued on September 1, 2025.

The program funds multidisciplinary community prevention frameworks, threat assessment and management capabilities, innovative prevention pilots, and recidivism reduction programming for individuals at risk of mobilization to violence. Combined federal funding stands at $119.2 million since the program's inception in 2017. Award cadence has remained consistent at 34–43 awards annually from 2021 through 2024, though 2025 saw 15 awards through September.
