Cell and Gene Therapy (CGT) Access Model
This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announces the opportunity for state governments, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories participating in the Medicaid Drug Rebate Program to apply for Cooperative Agreement funding to support their participation in the Cell and Gene Therapy (CGT) Access Model. The 11-year voluntary model aims to improve Medicaid beneficiary access to innovative cell and gene therapies, enhance health outcomes, and reduce healthcare expenditures through a CMS-led approach to developing and administering outcomes-based agreements with manufacturers of FDA-approved gene therapies for sickle cell disease. Applications are due by March 14, 2025, and selected recipients will be notified by July 1, 2025. Up to $9.55 million in Cooperative Agreement funding may be awarded to each selected recipient over the course of up to 10.5 years, from July 1, 2025 through December 31, 2035. The funding is intended to support state implementation activities and to reward states that take steps to improve equitable access to gene therapy and comprehensive care for Medicaid beneficiaries with sickle cell disease. States must apply to both this NOFO and a separate State Request for Applications to be considered for funding.
