About this program

The Department of Education Office of Postsecondary Education operates CFDA 84.337 to fund institutions of higher education, public or nonprofit private libraries, and partnerships among such entities to develop electronic technologies for collecting, organizing, preserving, and disseminating information from foreign sources on regions and countries other than the United States to support teaching and research needs in international education and foreign languages. The program has not awarded grants since October 1, 2009—over 17 years ago.

The program's most recent grant awards date to fiscal year 2009, when the Office of Postsecondary Education obligated approximately $1.3 million to $2.4 million per project across 13 awards funded that year. Earlier tranches in 2006 funded 10 awards ranging from approximately $1.4 million to $2.7 million, and in 2003 and 2001 the program funded smaller awards. The portfolio spanning 2001 to 2009 totals 41 Project Grants (100 percent of assistance type) obligating $14 million in federal dollars and $46.7 million in combined federal and non-federal support, reflecting recipient cost-share contributions. Representative awards include a $2.4 million project grant obligated in October 2009 (P337A090016), a $2.7 million award in October 2006 (P337A050005), and a $292 thousand award in October 2003 (P337A020007). Award completion dates clustered in 2010 through 2012 for the 2006 and 2009 cohorts and in 2002 through 2004 for earlier awards.

The Department of Education Office of Postsecondary Education is the sole funding source across all 41 awards. No grant opportunities are currently posted or have been posted recently under this Assistance Listing. The 17-year absence of new awards and the lack of active solicitations indicate this program is dormant and not a viable pursuit target at this time.
