About this program
The Department of Energy awarded 56 grants totaling $307.5 million under the Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program (CFDA 81.127) between August 21 and September 15, 2009. This program is no longer active; no grant opportunities have been posted since the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding concluded in 2009.
The program funded state-level residential energy-efficiency appliance rebate initiatives designed to reduce fossil fuel emissions and improve residential energy efficiency. States received formula allocations to establish and administer rebate programs encouraging households to purchase Energy Star rated appliances. Recipients included all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories. The program operated under Recovery Act authorization, with all activity concentrated in a single funding surge in 2009.
Award assistance comprised predominantly Formula Grants (53 awards, 95 percent) with smaller shares of Project Grants (2 awards, 4 percent) and one Block Grant (1 award, 2 percent). The Department of Energy was the sole funding agency. Award magnitudes ranged from $105 thousand to $35.3 million. Representative awards included Texas ($25.7 million), New York ($20.6 million), and Florida ($17.6 million), all Formula Grants disbursed on August 24 or 25, 2009. Two Project Grants—Illinois ($12.4 million) and Michigan ($9.5 million)—were also awarded on August 21 and 25, 2009, respectively. Most grant performance periods concluded by early 2012, with ultimate completion dates spanning December 2010 to March 2012.
No applications are currently being accepted under this program. The funding cycle closed more than 16 years ago, and no recent opportunities or extensions have been posted. Organizations should not pursue this assistance listing for current funding.
