About this program
The Department of Energy's Office of Scientific and Technical Information (CFDA 81.064) has not disbursed grant awards since June 2006—twenty years ago. The program portfolio shows only two Project Grants awarded that year, totaling $10.4 million in combined federal and non-federal obligation, with the Department of Energy as the sole funding agency. Both awards appear to have completed by 2013, and no recent grant opportunities are currently posted under this Assistance Listing.
The program's stated purpose is to advance science and sustain technological creativity by making DOE research and development results available, findable, and useable to DOE researchers, the public, academia, U.S. industry, and the scientific community. It collects, preserves, and disseminates scientific and technical information resources through partnerships with over 120 countries and international organizations. However, the award history does not reflect this mission. The two recorded grants funded brownfields remediation and a renewable-energy project on Randall's and Ward's Island—neither aligned with the program description's focus on information dissemination and access to R&D results.
The absence of grant activity for two decades, combined with the mismatch between stated program purpose and the single year's award history, signals that this Assistance Listing may no longer be actively administered for grant-making, or that the program has been superseded or consolidated. The negative federal obligation figure in one award record further suggests data quality issues or administrative closure in the grants management system.
Pursuit of this program is not recommended. The lack of recent opportunities, the long dormancy of the award pipeline, and the historical misalignment between program description and actual funding indicate that DOE is not currently soliciting applications under this Assistance Listing. Prospective applicants should verify current status directly with DOE's Office of Scientific and Technical Information or check active NOFO announcements on Grants.gov before investing in proposal development.
