This Project Grant award of $6,703,990.00 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Reducing Embodied Greenhouse Gas Emissions for Construction Materials and Products program (CFDA 66.721) will support the Building Materials Re-Use Association in developing and enhancing environmental product declarations (EPDs) for salvaged and reprocessed construction products. The key deliverables include: 1) Capacity building and education through training, workshops, and conference presentations on LCA, EPDs, and carbon labeling; 2) Development of a product category rule (PCR) for salvage and reuse construction products; 3) Creation of a digital LCA-EPD generator tool; and 4) Generation of approximately 300 EPDs from 100 salvage and reuse facilities. A sub-award will also be provided to the USDA Forest Products Laboratory for peer reviews and publications. The anticipated outcomes include increased transparency and standardization of environmental impact data for reused construction materials, which will benefit architecture, engineering, construction, and manufacturing professionals.

Reducing Embodied Greenhouse Gas Emissions for Construction Materials and Products
The Environmental Protection Agency is seeking applications under its Reducing Embodied Greenhouse Gas Emissions for Construction Materials and Products grant program. Eligible applicants include businesses, states, tribes, non-profits, and pass-through entities to increase robustness of greenhouse gas emissions data, assist with disclosure through environmental product declarations, and spur demand for lower emission materials like concrete, asphalt, steel and glass. Applications are due January 16, 2024 with anticipated notification by Spring 2024 and awards by Summer 2024, and will be evaluated based on ability to improve data quality, develop product standards, provide technical assistance or establish data platforms. The EPA plans to award up to 40 grants and cooperative agreements totaling $100 million between $250,000 to $10 million each to support development and verification of environmental product declarations and assistance for small businesses and first-time producers in manufacturing construction materials and products. Projects will advance goals to increase standardized greenhouse gas emissions data and disclosure for building industry supply chains.
