About this program
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) last awarded grants under the National Community-Based Lead Outreach and Training Grant Program (CFDA 66.718) in October 2012, making this program inactive for over a decade. Do not pursue unless the program resumes funding.
The program funded community-based lead poisoning prevention outreach, targeting low-income households and at-risk populations. Funded activities included lead awareness education for parents, child care facility managers, Head Start centers, renovation and construction workers, and health care providers; lead-safe work practice training for contractors and renovation sector workers; capacity-building initiatives in local communities; and national public awareness campaigns. A representative national campaign funded by the program was the Ad Council's print and broadcast PSA campaign on lead-based paint dust hazards, which received $2.15 million in October 2009.
All 27 grants in the program's history were Project Grants. The EPA was the sole funding agency, obligating $7.2 million in federal dollars across the portfolio. Recent awards ranged from $17,740 to $2.15 million, with most individual project grants falling in the $200,000 to $280,000 range. Award activity concentrated in 2007 and 2008 (15 and 8 awards respectively), then dropped to 2 awards each in 2009 and 2012. No grant opportunities are currently posted. The program received no funding in Fiscal Year 2012 according to its Assistance Listing description, and no grant awards have been made since October 2012. The portfolio shows no recent activity, no open solicitations, and no indication of program resumption. This program should be monitored for reactivation but is not pursueworthy in its current dormant state.
Objective and description
- Objective
This lead outreach grant program is supported by EPA's goal to reduce childhood lead poisoning. The projects support this goal by providing lead poisoning outreach to low income communities. Funding Priority - Fiscal Year 2012: No Funding was available for FY2012. The project will (print and broadcast) raise awareness of the dangers of lead-based paint dust, especially from renovation or repair activities, and to encourage parents and caregivers to take notice of the paint conditions in their home and connect with local and national resources to ensure their home and family is safe from this potent neurotoxin.
