The City of San Jose received a $419,002 Project Grant award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Geographic Programs - San Francisco Bay Water Quality Improvement Fund (CFDA #66.126) to implement an environmental stewardship program. The program will provide watershed protection and climate resilience education to local high school students, who will then present to elementary school students and the community. It will also facilitate creek cleanups with high school student assistance. Specific activities include delivering a bioscience curriculum, coordinating a lab lesson at a science museum, translating materials into Spanish and Vietnamese for broader reach, and engaging subrecipients to facilitate creek cleanups and education. Anticipated outcomes are instilling environmental stewardship in students and residents, increasing watershed resilience, and restoring a local creek. The May 1, 2023 awarded funds will support programming through June 30, 2027 aligned with the EPA grant program's goals of improving water quality and restoring habitat in the San Francisco Bay watershed.
