About this program
The Department of Veterans Affairs is awarding Project Grants under the Veteran and Spouse Transitional Assistance Grant Program (CFDA 64.058) to organizations providing employment-focused transition assistance to separated, retired, or discharged service members and their spouses, with the most recent grant awards issued September 1, 2024.
The program funds employment and career-readiness services tailored to veterans and military spouses transitioning to civilian life. Recent awards support resume coaching, interview preparation, job placement assistance, workforce training program enrollment, and employer engagement. Representative awards include $500 thousand to support 660 post-9/11 veterans and active-duty military spouses in gaining family-sustaining employment in New York; $500 thousand for veteran-specific career coaching and job placement targeting healthcare, IT, and engineering sectors in California; and $300 thousand to provide tuition subsidies for 50 participants annually in short-duration workforce training programs offering industry-standard credentials in high-demand fields including IT, healthcare, logistics, advanced manufacturing, and construction in Missouri.
All 26 awards in the recent portfolio are Project Grants, funded entirely by the Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Benefits Administration. Combined federal dollars obligated total $5 million across the portfolio, with individual award amounts ranging from approximately $100 thousand to $500 thousand. The program issued 26 awards in 2024 at a single award cycle on September 1, 2024.
Eligible applicants include state and local governments, institutions of higher education, federally recognized Indian tribes, nonprofit organizations, and faith-based organizations. VA prioritizes organizations that provide multiple forms of employment services or are located in states with high veteran unemployment rates, high usage of unemployment benefits by recently separated service members, or economies significantly impacted by a covered public health emergency. Recipients of $1 million or cumulative federal funding are subject to single-audit requirements and must maintain auditable records of grant activities for at least three years.
