FY 2022 and FY 2023 Competitive Funding Opportunity: Competitive Grants for Rail Vehicle Replacement Program (Rail Program)
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announces the opportunity to apply for $600 million in Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 and 2023 Section 5337 State of Good Repair Program funds (Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance #20.525) authorized for competitively selected rail vehicle replacement projects. As required by Federal public transportation law and subject to appropriations, funds will be awarded competitively to States and local governmental authorities to assist in the financing of capital projects to replace rail rolling stock.

FY 2024 Competitive Funding Opportunity: Rail Vehicle Replacement Grant Program (RAIL)
The Federal Transit Administration is soliciting applications for its Fiscal Year 2024 Competitive Funding Opportunity: Rail Vehicle Replacement Grant Program. Eligible applicants include state, local, tribal, and special district governments and authorities seeking to replace existing rail vehicles that have exceeded their useful life. Applications must demonstrate need, benefits, planning, local commitment, and technical and financial capacity. The agency will evaluate submissions and select projects competitively to receive funding of up to 50 percent of total eligible costs, with the federal share capped at 80 percent. Applications are due by December 18, 2023. The program has approximately $197 million available nationally to fund rail vehicle replacement capital projects. Awards will support replacements in line with the objectives of the State of Good Repair Grants program to maintain public transportation infrastructure in a state of good repair. Project work will take place where existing rail systems eligible for replacement under the criteria are located.
