The Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration awarded $761,798.42 under the Metropolitan Transportation Planning and State and Non-Metropolitan Planning and Research (CFDA 20.505) Formula Grant program to the Michigan Department of Transportation on September 12, 2022. The funding will support transportation planning activities in the Grand Rapids, Michigan urbanized area outlined in the Unified Planning Work Program for fiscal year 2023 (October 1, 2022 through September 30, 2023). Specifically, the grant will allow the Michigan Department of Transportation to carry out the metropolitan transportation planning process for the Grand Rapids area, including developing transportation improvement programs and long-range transportation plans. A portion of the funding, described as AREAWIDE GRAND RAPIDS URBANIZED AREA planning funds, will be subawarded to the Grand Valley Metro Council, also known as GVMC, to support their participation in the metropolitan transportation planning process.

FY 2021 Competitive Funding Opportunity: Route Planning Restoration Program
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announces the opportunity to apply for $25,000,000 in Fiscal Year (FY) 2021 funding under the Route Planning Restoration Program (Federal Assistance Listing: 20.505). As required by Federal public transportation law and subject to funding availability, funds will be awarded competitively to support planning designed to (i) increase ridership and reduce travel times, while maintaining or expanding the total level of vehicle revenue miles of service provided in the planning period; or (ii) make service adjustments to increase the quality or frequency of service provided to low-income riders and disadvantaged neighborhoods or communities.
