The Pueblo of Santa Ana was awarded a $4,460,648 Project Grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration's Wildlife Crossings Pilot Program (CFDA 20.290). The grant will fund the scoping and design of a wildlife corridor along nearly 8 miles of US-550 and 19 miles of Interstate 25 in north central New Mexico. The project aims to reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions involving mule deer, elk, pronghorn, black bears, and mountain lions by installing wildlife overpasses, underpasses, and other infrastructure features. The award has a target completion date of September 30, 2030. As part of this initiative, the Pueblo of Santa Ana will collaborate with the University of New Mexico and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation on various components of the wildlife corridor project.
