About this program

The Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women funds programs serving children and youth exposed to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking under CFDA 16.020, with the most recent grant award dated October 1, 2011—15 years ago.

Program activity has ceased. The portfolio contains 17 total awards, all disbursed on a single date in fiscal year 2011, with no subsequent awards documented. The most recent grant opportunity, OVW-2011-2929, closed on March 3, 2011. No current or recently posted grant opportunities appear in the available record.

The program funds two categories of activities. Direct services include counseling, advocacy, or mentoring for children exposed to violence, with mandatory support for the nonabusing parent or child's caretaker. Training, coordination, and advocacy activities serve child-serving programs such as Head Start, child care, and after-school programs, teaching them to identify families experiencing violence and refer them to services. Recent awards reflect both tracks: Metropolitan Family Services' Safe Start Program ($300,000), a victim services project expanding child advocacy services across five counties and training outside child-serving agencies ($351,477), a rural collaborative in Nevada ($335,000), and the Cook Inlet Flourishing Child Program in Alaska ($410,000).

All 17 awards took the form of Cooperative Agreements, each structured for two-year performance periods ending September 30, 2013. Award sizes ranged from $73,154 to $410,000, with most awards clustering around $300,000 to $400,000. Combined federal dollars obligated totaled $5.7 million, all from the Office on Violence Against Women—the sole funding agency active under this program.

Eligible applicants included tribal governments, county and city governments, state governments, victim services providers, tribal nonprofits, and community-based organizations. The program does not currently show signs of active funding cycles or open solicitations based on the available record.
