About this program
The Department of Housing and Urban Development Assistant Secretary for Policy Development and Research administers the Alaska Native/Native Hawaiian Institutions Assisting Communities program (CFDA 14.515), which funds Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian higher education institutions to address community development needs including neighborhood revitalization, housing, and economic development for persons of low-and moderate-income. The most recent grant award was disbursed on October 1, 2015, over a decade ago, and no recent grant opportunities are posted.
Program activity has ceased. The portfolio records 17 Project Grants totaling $8.2 million in federal obligations across the program's history from 2007 through 2015. Award activity peaked in 2010 with twelve grants issued in a single cycle; prior and subsequent years recorded one award each. No awards have been made since 2015. The sole funding source throughout the portfolio is HUD's Assistant Secretary for Policy Development and Research, which obligated all 17 awards and all federal dollars in the program.
All awards in the portfolio are structured as Project Grants. Representative recent awards illustrate the typical funding scale and recipients: a $800 thousand award to a Native Hawaiian institution (AHIAC10HI06, September 2010); an $800 thousand award to an Alaska Native institution (AHIAC10AK04, September 2010); and a $1.2 million award supporting community development work in New Jersey (HSIAC10NJ34, September 2010). Award magnitudes in the 2010 cohort ranged from approximately $500 thousand to $1.2 million. The portfolio includes several awards with negative or zero obligations in 2007–2009 and 2014–2015, suggesting program closures, recoveries, or administrative adjustments in those years.
No active solicitation is currently open under this Assistance Listing. The extended absence of awards since 2015 and lack of posted opportunities indicate the program is inactive or has been discontinued as a funding vehicle.
