About this program

The Department of Housing and Urban Development Assistant Secretary for Community Planning and Development funded Community Development Block Grant ARRA Entitlement Grants (CDBG-R) under Assistance Listing 14.253, with the most recent grant award on December 1, 2009.

This program is inactive. The portfolio contains 1,108 awards spanning October 2008 to December 2009, with 650 awards in 2008 and 458 in 2009. No grant opportunities are currently posted, and no awards have been disbursed since December 2009.

CDBG-R funded expedited community development activities during the 2008–2009 Recovery Act period, with emphasis on job retention and creation, economic benefit, infrastructure improvements, energy efficiency initiatives, and assistance to unemployed persons. Recent awards show the program distributed funds to cities and counties for recovery-focused activities, including grants to City of New Orleans for $4.96 million (October 22, 2009), unspecified county recipients for $2.14 million (September 1, 2009), and a city recipient for $4.48 million (September 1, 2009).

The assistance type mix was exclusively Formula Grants—all 1,108 awards (100 percent). HUD's Assistant Secretary for Community Planning and Development was the sole funding source, obligating $677.8 million in combined federal dollars. Award sizes varied significantly, ranging from approximately $63 thousand to $4.96 million.

This program is not a current pursuit opportunity. It operated exclusively as a time-limited Recovery Act funding vehicle and closed after the 2009 fiscal year. Organizations should verify whether successor or ongoing CDBG programs under related Assistance Listings remain open for application.
