About this program
The Department of Defense National Security Agency funds summer cybersecurity camp experiences for secondary students and teachers through the GenCyber Grants Program (CFDA 12.903), with the most recent grant award distributed on September 15, 2025.
The program supports National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (CAEs) that design and deliver cybersecurity education to secondary-level students and teachers. Awards fund both direct camp programming and coalition administration, where designated CAEs lead partnerships with not-for-profit organizations to expand program reach. The program explicitly targets awareness-building and sustained engagement with cybersecurity content at the secondary level.
All recent activity consists of Project Grants. The Office of the Secretary of Defense has issued two awards totaling $12.1 million in federal dollars obligated over the past year. Award magnitudes diverge substantially: one award to a coalition administrator was $9.6 million through September 2027, while a second award supporting program operations totaled approximately $2.5 million through December 2026.
Applicants must be designated National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity to compete for coalition grants, though not-for-profit organizations may partner with a CAE to receive funding. The principal investigator and program staff must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Awards are announced within three months of proposal receipt.
