About this program
The Department of the Air Force awards funding to the Civil Air Patrol, a federally chartered nonprofit, under CFDA 12.840, with the most recent award issued on October 1, 2022.
This program operates under a noncompetitive, statutorily mandated structure. Awards support Civil Air Patrol's core missions: aviation education and training for senior and cadet members, emergency response and disaster relief capabilities, civil aviation development in local communities, and noncombat assistance to the Department of the Air Force. The program is structured as Cooperative Agreements exclusively; the portfolio shows two awards spanning 2017 to present.
Funding derives from two federal sources within the Air Force. The Department of the Air Force Air National Guard obligated $288.3 million in the 2022 award, while the Department of the Air Force obligated $268.9 million in the 2017 award. Combined federal dollars total $557.2 million against a combined total obligation (including non-federal cost-share) of $594.8 million. Awards are substantial, multi-year instruments: the 2022 Cooperative Agreement (FA48192320001) runs through September 2026 with $268.9 million obligated, while the prior 2017 award carried over $325.9 million. Award-per-year cadence is sparse—one award every five years based on the limited data—reflecting the program's noncompetitive, statutory character as a dedicated funding line to a single eligible recipient.
No recent grant opportunities are posted under this program. The statutory design and single eligible recipient (Civil Air Patrol) eliminate competitive solicitation. Pursuit is not viable for organizations other than Civil Air Patrol itself. The program's next action window is unknown from the source.
