About this program

The Department of Agriculture National Resources Conservation Service funds feral swine eradication and control activities in designated pilot regions through CFDA 10.934, with the most recent grant opportunity due September 25, 2026. The program supports landowner assistance, removal operations, and habitat restoration in response to feral swine damage across agriculture, native ecosystems, livestock, and human health in high-density states including Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.

Award activity has been episodic. Twenty-seven grants totaling $36 million were obligated between April 2020 and August 2024, with two awards in 2024, twelve in 2021, and thirteen in 2020; no awards appear in the portfolio between 2022 and mid-2024. The assistance mix is predominantly Project Grants (93 percent, 25 awards) with smaller shares of Cooperative Agreements (7 percent, 2 awards). NRCS is the sole funder across the portfolio.

Recent awards span $400 thousand to $6 million in individual federal obligations. The Red Hills Feral Swine Control project received $432,819 in August 2024 for eradication and feral swine diet analysis using DNA metabarcoding. The Mississippi Delta expansion project was awarded $2.48 million in September 2021 for landowner assistance across delta counties. The Arkansas Department of Agriculture collaboration received $5.98 million in April 2020 to codify joint NRCS-state control efforts.

Activities covered include surveys and monitoring, baiting, education and outreach, trapping with corral traps, and eradication and control efforts conducted in partnership with APHIS, universities, soil and water conservation districts, and state agencies. All funds must be obligated by September 30, 2028. The FY 2026 NOFO, posted July 23, 2026, requires non-federal match and is open to state governments, county and tribal governments, higher education institutions (public and private), and 501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3) nonprofits.
