Wood Utilization Assistance
The USDA Forest Service is requesting proposals for the Wood Utilization Assistance grant program to expand and accelerate wood energy and wood product markets across the United States. The grants will support reducing hazardous fuels, improving forest health, lowering forest management costs, and promoting the economic and environmental benefits of wood utilization on National Forest System and other forest lands. Key priorities include completing requirements for commercial wood building and energy projects, developing wood manufacturing capacity and infrastructure, showcasing the sustainability benefits of wood construction, establishing state-level wood utilization teams, and overcoming market barriers for wood energy. The application deadline is December 11, 2024. Federal grant awards under this program typically range from $100,000 to $600,000, with performance periods spanning 1-5 years. Common recipients include universities, state agencies, non-profit organizations, and for-profit companies in the forestry and wood products sectors. The places of performance include various states across the U.S., with notable activity in the Pacific Northwest, Rocky Mountain, and Eastern regions.
