About this program

The Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service operated SNAP-Ed Toolkit (CFDA 10.533) as a noncompetitive cooperative agreement program, with the most recent grant award disbursed on April 1, 2023. The program is no longer active for new applications; the underlying cooperative agreement with the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill ended in fiscal year 2023, and its resources have been consolidated into the SNAP-Ed Connection website.

The program funded the operation, maintenance, and update of the SNAP-Ed Toolkit, an online searchable database of over 150 evidence-based nutrition education and physical activity interventions designed for low-income audiences. The toolkit included four components—Interventions, Evaluation Framework, Literature Reviews, and Training—to guide implementation and evaluation of evidence-based nutrition education programs. Users could access interventions linked to behavioral outcome indicators for use in SNAP-Ed programming and reporting.

Over eight awards spanning from November 2018 to April 2023, the Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service obligated $2.8 million in combined federal dollars. The assistance-type mix was predominantly Cooperative Agreements (75% of awards, six agreements) with a smaller share of Project Grants (25% of awards, two grants). Award cadence declined from three awards in 2019 to one award per year in 2020 through 2023.

Recent awards illustrate the program's scope: a Cooperative Agreement for $230,819.70 obligated on April 1, 2023, supported SNAP-Ed Toolkit operations; a Cooperative Agreement for $1,850,333.00 obligated on September 29, 2022, funded SNAP Nutrition Education; and a Cooperative Agreement for $277,602.00 obligated on October 1, 2021, also supported SNAP Nutrition Education.

No new grant opportunities are open under this program. The consolidation of toolkit resources into the SNAP-Ed Connection website as of fiscal year 2023 marks the effective closure of this particular assistance listing for new funding.

It includes four main components: Interventions, Evaluation Framework, Literature Reviews, and Training; that guide and support the implementation, evaluation, and reporting on evidence-based nutrition education programs. The Interventions component allows users access to a searchable database of over 150 evidence-based interventions which are appropriate for low-income audiences.
